 The Hotel Belmar is truly a hotel dedicated to the appreciation of nature! The hotel was founded in 1985 and is still a family run business. It looks like a typical mountain Hotel, two Swiss Chalet style buildings perched on the side of the mountain at the edge of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. With twenty eight spacious rooms all with amazing views of the beautiful surroundings and exceptional personalized service, the Hotel Belmar is definitely a place to stay when visiting the Monteverde area. The Hotel Belmar is located approximately 105 miles from San Jose. The average temperature is 62 degrees Fahrenheit and the altitude is approximately 4500 feet above sea level. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve offers visitors a plethora of activities to choose from. The Reserve is easily accessed from the hotel, which is just 500 yards off of the main road. The rooms at the Hotel Belmar offer spectacular views of either the Bay of Nicoya or the Cloud Forest. There is a private trail just for the guests and a basketball court and pool table for relaxing after a long day of exploring the wonders of nature, or for those just looking for a good soak, there is a Jacuzzi that will work on all of your sore muscles. Each room has a private bath with hot water and there is a restaurant and bar on the property which is convenient after a long day hiking. The philosophy of the Hotel Belmar is entirely centered on nature. Meals are made of natural, homemade products, organic when at all possible. The hotel decorations are entirely produced by local artisans; including photographers and artists from the immediate area.
 The hotel prides itself on sustainability in all of its operations. This dedication to preserving the environment can be seen in every aspect of the hotel, from the use of environmentally friendly paints and cleaning products to the use of compact energy saving fluorescent lights in 90% of all installations. The heating and cooling system of the hotel, as well as the laundry are energy efficient and the hotel prides itself on the production of some of its own electrical power. Water conservation is observed with low flow shower heads and toilets, as well as a water efficient laundry system. Post-consumer products are used whenever available and the Hotel Belmar actively recycles and encourages their guests to recycle also. Biodegradable cleaning and laundry products are used and everything is fragrance free. The Jacuzzi is heated with bio-gas created from an on site biodigester located on site which treats and reuses all hotel wastewater. The Hotel prides itself on offering organic and vegetarian food choices and is a leader in the local composting movement. All outside areas are maintained without the use of poisonous chemicals or dangerous insecticides. Our employees are all local resi-dents and we are proud of our relationship with the Monteverde com-munity. The Belmar family is proud of its association with the Monteverde Conservation Association and the School for Creative Education. It is their hope that guests will leave the beauty of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and the Belmar Hotel with a new appreciation of the awesome responsibility conservation and environmentalism is to everyone on the planet.
